I Have a Confession to Make...

November 5, 2018

I have a confession to make and it is not one I am proud about.

I am pretty sure everyone on the planet knows that there are elections coming up this Tuesday...if you missed it somehow....nah, no one has missed it.

There are ads everywhere! Social Media, radio, phone calls, commercials, even text messages. They stop at nothing to get your attention using whatever tactics necessary. They let you know what they will do if you vote for them and what will happen if you vote for their opponent. Fear tactics are EVERYWHERE. It makes you want to turn everything off and completely unplug, which, might not be a bad thing.

Here is my confession...as a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, I haven't prayed for this country and its leaders the way we are called to do. I have gotten so caught up in my "busy" life and my personal schedule and my everything. My eyes have been on me. I won't lie...when I take a minute to even look at what is going on in the world and our country, it makes me freak out and I just shut it off. I let FEAR take over and hide away.  The last thing we as believers need to be doing is shutting ourselves off from this country God has placed us in and hiding!

Have we thought about that? Have we taken a minute to realize that God has us here in America for such a time as this? Have we forgotten that He put us here for a reason and a purpose? Have we just accepted what the world's opinion is and lost sight of God's truth?

I think I did.

I think I have had the attitude that if I just ignore it, it will all go way...putting my head in the sand.

Here's the thing...just because we ignore the hate, the division, the hurt, the anger, the difference of opinions, and all the craziness, does not mean it goes away. It's definitely still there....and growing.

So, what do we do now?

1 Timothy 2: 1-2 says: I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people-for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Proverbs 21:1 says: The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.

2 Chronicles 7: 14 says: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Now...we pray.

We pray and ask for forgiveness of our sins.

We pray and ask God to help us turn from our wicked ways.

We pray and ask God to help us shine His love in our actions and words to everyone around us.

We pray and ask God to heal our land.

We pray diligently for our country and our leaders.

We pray for God's wisdom to be their guide as they lead our cities, states, and nation.

We pray for revival and start believing that it can actually happen again in our country.

We pray before we go vote.

We pray and ask God to help us be wise in how we place our vote and give us guidance in the true direction that He wants us to vote. His voice should be the one we listen to when we vote.

We pray...and we keep praying.

If we want to see a change in our country then it begins with us.

The change will come down on our knees.

Prayer changes things.

So now I am confessing to you, whoever may be reading this, that I am going to be praying diligently for my country and its leaders. I will be praying before votes and after them.

I am praying for God to move in this country in a mighty way once again.

I am praying that He breaks our hearts for what breaks His.

I am praying for Him to help us.

I am praying that He pours out His spirit and heals our land.

I am praying that His love and His truth will shine bright here through us.

I am praying that He helps us to serve others the same way Jesus did.

I am praying...will you pray with me?
